Early Thursday evening the Country Club Johannesburg, Auckland Park, Squash Courts where a buzz of new faces- all of which were registering to participate in the first-ever National Squash 57 (Racketball) Championship Tournament. Some participants had only travelled from local clubs while others arrived from Kwa-Zulu Natal and Cape Town. This particular tournament left a mark in history for it is a first of it’s kind for South Africa. Squash57 is growing and this weekend stood proof that the future for Squash and Squash57 alike, is exceptionally bright.

Players registered for categories suited to their ability and age. A wide range of male and female squash players filled the 7 categories and the start of the tournament commenced. Throughout the following days, the players battled it out to the finals, which were being played on Sunday morning. Many spectators, friends and family joined in on the action in support of their finalists. Daughters watched on eagerly supporting their hero’s while their Mums and Dads battled it out, game after game for the title.  The entire family was either participating or supporting – Afterall Squash and Squash 57 is fun for the entire family.

Sunday morning soon arrived and the heat was on, the courts glistening as players arrived. Participants were eagerly awaiting their final game in the tournament. The games commenced and continued through until early afternoon where the winners where announced – a wave of fulfilment, joy and passion gusted through Auckland Park’s Squash Courts.
