RMB Starlight Classics 2019 is ready to welcome spring with its signature AfroSymphonic event on 7 September at the Country Club Johannesburg, as a host of local and international musical stars converge under the baton of Maestro Richard Cock, accompanied by the Johannesburg Festival Orchestra.

Multi award-winning performer Zahara, international guest tenor Gaston Rivero, piano virtuoso Charl du Plessis, international baritone Musa Ngqungwana, pop toe-tapper Lee Scott and The Voice South Africa’s Siki Jo-An combine with 2018 World Choir Games stars Quava Vocal Group and one of South Africa’s leading choirs, The Chanticleer Singers, for a series of  performances that reinvigorate the classics and tune up some contemporary pop numbers for the RMB Starlight Classics stage, guided by award-winning Director Darren Hayward.

Nature gets its own spot in the lineup with a specially-commissioned musical piece, Murmuration, adding a soaring orchestral accompaniment to footage of the astonishing sight of an immense flock of starlings in flight. Murmuration is composed by Cape Town-based film & documentary score expert Grant McLachlan.

“Even 21 years on, we continue to be amazed by the power of music on the RMB Starlight Classics stage,” says RMB’s Carolynne Waterhouse. “The event has become a fixture on the Johannesburg spring schedule for its ability to dazzle with one-off collaborations, its unique reimagining’s of all-time classical favourites and offering showcase opportunities for some of South Africa’s most mesmerizing musical talent.
