THE COUNTRY CLUB SPORTS

Golf

The Country Club Johannesburg’s two exceptional championship golf courses offer members and guests two golfing experiences that are both world-class yet refreshingly different.

Woodmead golf course, opened in 1968, is an exceptional parkland course with tall trees, immaculate greens and a sense of history. Adjacent to Woodmead, the newer Rocklands golf course offers a challenging, rolling course with sweeping views over northern Johannesburg.

THE COUNTRY CLUB JOHANNESBURG

Rocklands Golf Course

The Rocklands course is the younger of The Club’s two 18-hole golf courses, having been built in 1992. The course offers golfers spectacular views of Johannesburg and the Magaliesberg mountain range.

The Rocklands course, in keeping with its bushveld ‘feel’, is bordered by natural grasslands, huge rock formations and copses with indigenous trees such as Buffalo-thorn, Wild Olive and Kiepersol. But don’t be distracted by the beauty of the surroundings; this is a challenging course off the back tees.

Like most South African golf courses, Kikuyu grass is used on the tees, fairways and semi-rough at Rocklands, while greens are seeded with blended Penn A1 and Penn A4 Bentgrass, and are constructed to USGA specifications.

THE COUNTRY CLUB JOHANNESBURG

Woodmead Golf Course

Woodmead is a breathtakingly scenic and well-maintained course that blends effortlessly into its woodland forest surroundings. The tree-lined fairways, well stocked dams and strategic mounding add to its appeal. Together, with the many bird species on the course, this creates the perfect balance between city and nature.

The greens on the Woodmead Golf Course are constructed to USGA specifications and are seeded with the hybrid L93 Bentgrass. Elsewhere, the course is planted with Kikuyu grass on the tees, fairways and semi-rough. The Sandwedge halfway house is widely considered to be one of the finest in the country and offers discerning golfers the perfect midway break.

THE COUNTRY CLUB JOHANNESBURG

The Mashie

As the leading Country Club in South Africa, we continually strive to give our members and their families the very best Country Club experience. Our fun 9-hole Mashie course at Woodmead is a place where families can have fun in a relaxed golfing environment. It’s also the perfect starting place if you are a beginner and the ideal facility for our junior and regular golfers to sharpen their short game. Hole distances vary with the shortest hole just 60m long and the longest hole a more challenging 150m.

The Mashie Junior Special

All juniors, under 16, who are members, children or grandchildren of members can PLAY FOR FREE on the Mashie. All players must still check-in at the Golf Desk in the Proshop. Friends and guests under 16 are still required to pay the usual green fee. Our up and coming young golfers now have an opportunity to have fun and develop their skills on the course!

Playing Cards

Playing cards may be used for The Mashie. The same rules and conditions apply on The Mashie as to Woodmead and Rocklands courses.

There will be no green fee on Sunday afternoons for weekday playing card holders and members with a 12 or 24 round prepaid playing cards may use these for The Mashie.

GOLF DRESS CODES

Members and guests are asked to adhere to basic golf dress code such as collared shirts, trousers or shorts with belt, golf shoes or takkies while using the Mashie Course as the course is a stepping stone for beginner golfers and the Golf Department will view dress code which is determined to be suitable to play the course.
