Golf Academy

With a coaching facility that is second to none, our fully qualified PGA Professionals are ready and waiting to help YOU play better golf! Golfers are encouraged to make use of the many practice facilities available at the Club:

Full driving range, chipping green, practice bunkers and a practice putting green for each golf course.
The Academy is open 7 days a week with the first lesson generally given at 07:00 and last at 17:00.

Lessons are hosted by all 4 Academy coaches and are available to all.

All lessons come with V1 Analysis. Students swings are videoed outside and analysed on the computer with the V1 Analysis software and then sent a recording of the lesson to their email so that they can look back at their video whenever they wish.

A large variety of Teaching/Training Aids are used during every lesson to ensure the student gets the correct ‘feeling’ or move required to fix their specific golf swing issues. Training Aids to name but a few are: Explanar, Impact Ball, Leader-board, Orange Whip etc.

Don’t let the Juniors miss out!

Junior Holiday Clinics (during school holidays) are available! These 3 day Holiday Clinics encompassing 2 days of games, drills and practice sessions (Swing, Pitching, Chipping, Bunkers, Putting, Rules and Etiquette etc.) followed by 9 holes fun competition on either Woodmead, Rocklands or The Mashie Course and prize-giving on the 3rd

Costs will be dependant on the number of Juniors attending the clinic.

John dickson (Fellow PGA Professional)

Born in 1969, and grew up in Ficksburg, Free State. John went to school at Michael House and Matriculated in 1986. He studied a BSc Finance at Winthrop University, USA.

Following that, John turned Professional in 1992 and played on the Sunshine Tour and various mini tours in USA until 1998.

John is passionate about teaching and decided to join the PGA of SA in 1999 and teach golf full time.

John started his teaching at Emberton Driving Range in Durban in 1999, then moved to Durban Country Club and was the Head Teaching Professional there from 2006 to 2013.

John has Won PGA Teaching Professional of the Year 2006, 2012 and now again in 2018.John then moved up to Pretoria in 2014 taking up the Head Teaching Professional position at The Els Club, Copperleaf until now.

BYRON NEL (Fellow PGA Professional)

Born in 1989, and grew up in Pinetown, Durban. Byron went to school at Sutherland High and Matriculated in 2006. He studied for a B-Tech Degree in Sport Officiating and Coaching and completed his PGA Club Professional Diploma at Tshwane University of Technology in 2010.

Byron has worked at multiple top Country Clubs throughout the country, namely: Mt Edgecombe CC, Umhlali CC, Blue Valley CC and the Els Club, Copperleaf. Byron has been working alongside John Dickson since February 2017 and running all the junior, ladies, and introductory golf programs.

Byron’s passion is Junior Golf and to develop and grow the next generation of golfers. “I love making the game fun and exciting for junior golfers and beginners to learn in a friendly environment”. Byron’s energy and focus on junior golf has been rewarded by him Winning multiple PGA Awards, namely:

TYRAN VAN LIESHOUT Class AA PGA professional

Born in 1984, and grew up in Johannesburg. Tyran went to school at Rand Park High and matriculated in 2003. Having played golf since the age of 13, Tyran has raked up some impressive wins as an amateur. Namely, the Bobby Locke Invitational, Gauteng North Mid-Amateur and various Regional events to name a few. Tyran played on the Sunshine Tour from 2007 to 2009.

Not only being a good player in his own right, Tyran enjoys helping people and has caddied for a few top professionals on the Sunshine, Challenge and European Tours. Tyran has joined the PGA of SA as an apprentice in 2018 under John Dickson and Byron Nel.

Book With Tyran


Born in 1986 in Johannesburg, grew up in Honeydew Gauteng. Matriculated in 2003 and then played 5 years full time amateur golf achieving both Junior and Senior Full National Colours for South Africa. Tandi turned professional in 2008 and then played 5 years on the Ladies European Tour from 2009 to 2013. Best finishes were 2nd in the DLF Ladies Indian Open (lost in a play off to Laura Davies) and 2nd in the Lalla Meryem Cup of Morocco. Best Order of Merit finish was 50th in the 2012 season.

In 2009 after having just turned professional, Tandi won the South African Woman’s Open on a total of 12 under par. She later went on to win the Felix Finnish Open that same year while competing the SAS Masters Scandanavian Tour.

In 2013 the Sunshine Ladies Tour was launched and Tandi won the Sun International Ladies Open at Lost City that year. Since then she has competed for the past 9 years on the Sunshine Ladies Tour with her best order of Merit finish of 2nd in the 2018 season.

Tandi started teaching in 2013 to 2017 at Randpark Golf Club under the mentorship of Martin Whitcher and Whitcher Golf School. From 2017 to 2022 she then became the Head Teaching Professional at Parkview Golf club before moving across to The Country Club Johannesburg.

Tandi has joined the PGA of SA and is in the process of completing her studies under her mentor John Dickson as well as in more recent times can be found doing commentary for the Men’s Sunshine Tour.
